Factors Affecting the Quality of Life of Vulnerable Elderly

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that influenced the quality of life of vulnerable elderly receiving fitting home visiting health service.

Methods: The participants for this study were 550 vulnerable elderly living in D city. The data were collected from January to May 2012 using structured questionnaires. Chi-square, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test, Pearson¡¯s correlation coefficeint and multiple regression with the SPSS program were used to analyze the data.

Results: The mean score of the quality of life was 24.84. The quality of life was associated with Activities of Daily Living(IADL) and depression negatively. The model including variables related to physical, psychological, and social aspects of life, explained variance of the quality of life of elderly, such as 28.4% of depression, 20.5% of IADL, 17.7% of connecting volunteer, 14.3% of age, and 1.0% of educational level. Finally, IADL and depression were predictors in explaining the level of the quality of life among vulnerable elderly.

Conclusion: Based on the findings of the study, efficient and various programs for the elderly should be tried to improve IADL and reduce depression in the future at visiting health care services. Additionally, consistent evaluation studies for those programs will be required.
